Beethoven life cast from the 19th Century Beethoven Life Mask by Franz Klein

Ludwig van Beethoven (baptized 17 December 1770 – died 26 March 1827) was a German composer and pianist. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western art music, he remains one of the most famous and influential of all composers.

In order to create a sculpture of Beethoven (1770-1827) Austria sculptor, Franz Klein got approval to cast a negative of his face and obtained a life mask that way. The mask is considered the only lifelike reproduction of Beethoven since photography was not invented yet. Various casts were made out of the mold. They were all produced in the 19th century.  We have reproduced this cast for the 21rst century.
