Fossil Cast – Ichthyostega | Historic Paleontological Specimen
Own a fascinating piece of paleontological history!
This is an Ichthyostega fossil cast representing one of the remarkable early tetrapods of the Devonian Period. Ichthyostega is especially fascinating because it represents an important stage in history. Examine the period of ancient aquatic animals.
What makes this particular cast especially interesting is its documented connection to Dr. Donald Baird of Princeton University.
The back of the original is marked:
“Ichthyostega Devonian Baird”
The “Baird” refers to Dr. Donald Baird, a noted Princeton paleontologist, who gave this cast to Richard Rush Studio while consulting on a sculpted reconstruction of Ichthyostega produced by the studio.
That provenance gives this piece an intriguing connection to the history of paleontological reconstruction and scientific museum sculpture. It isn't simply a fossil replica—it has a story behind it.
